Kids just want to have fun! Creating a fun environment for kids of all ages was Dr. Keller’s vision. His love for aviation and kids inspired an “aircraft hanger-like” design that is an exercise in materiality and simplicity much like the design of an airplane. Simple and cost-effective opaque materials of block and metal panel are complemented with glazing that provides an abundance of natural light into the hygiene bays that face south. The waiting area and game room are also high-lighted with large openings that face out to landscaping. Color is also used to high-light certain elements of the exterior and interior. An efficient 5,000SF floor plan has open bays on one side of the building and closed treatment rooms are on the opposite side facing north with small punched openings. The support spaces are inserted in between both types of patient areas and provide a good sound buffer so that each patient has a positive experience.
