Salt Life Headquarters

Columbus, Georgia

Transforming a Landmark with Historic Building Renovation

2WR Architects led the historic building renovation of the century-old Coca-Cola building in Columbus, turning it into the new Salt Life headquarters. Originally vacant and largely unchanged for over a hundred years, this three-story heavy-timber brick structure required extensive modernization while preserving its historic charm. By following historic preservation guidelines, 2WR introduced contemporary office spaces while maintaining the building’s original character.

Restoring Historic Integrity with a Thoughtful Renovation

This historic building renovation focused on preserving key architectural elements while modernizing essential systems. Exposed brick walls, timber framing, original wood floors, paneling, and doors were carefully restored. Meanwhile, 2WR installed energy-efficient systems to support a contemporary workplace. The barrel-vaulted warehouse at the rear was also repurposed into additional office space, maintaining its industrial aesthetic.

Exterior Upgrades in Historic Building Renovation

2WR Architects restored the building’s historic exterior while incorporating modern performance enhancements. Boarded-up openings were replaced with energy-efficient windows, reviving the structure’s early 1900s aesthetic while improving insulation and sustainability. Additionally, the atrium skylight, a defining feature of the building, was fully replaced. It now serves as a central source of natural light and ventilation, improving comfort across all floors.

Preserving History While Creating a Modern Headquarters

Through a strategic historic building renovation, 2WR successfully revitalized the Salt Life Headquarters into a state-of-the-art corporate space while preserving its unique heritage. The seamless integration of original craftsmanship and modern upgrades ensures that the building will serve its new purpose for decades.
